Radiofrequency Ablation

Radiofrequency Ablation (Cervical, thoracic, lumbar and Sacral)

A radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive X-ray guided procedure that is performed in an outpatient setting to help manage pain associated with facet joint arthritis/arthropathy (spondylosis). The procedure can be performed in the neck, mid back and low back to target cervical, thoracic and lumbar facet mediated pain. The procedure is performed using special equipment and needles that will deliver heat to the nerve fibers responsible for transmitting pain signals. This creates a “burn” that disrupts nerve endings for 6 months to over a year in some cases. Patients can have the procedure repeated if and when the pain returns.
